Grassroots solar event planned for Oct. 3


In what is being billed as the world’s largest,  solar-event in the world will be held this fall.

More than 150,000 people are expected to attend the National Solar Tour being sponsored by the Boulder-based American Solar Energy Society.

Most of the events will be held on Oct. 3.

The Denver tour will be held form 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Oct. 3, and will be presented by the Colorado Renewable Energy Society and the local chapter of ASES. It will feature 12 homes in Denver, Golden and Wheat Ridge.  It will showcase a variety of energy strategies, including straw bale, passive solar and geothermal. It costs $20 per car load.

Across the U.S., the tours will be held in 3,000 neighborhood in 48 states.

The ASES says that solar costs are 30 percent to 40 percent lower than they were a year ago, and incentives can cut the costs of installation by one third to two thirds.
