- Natural Grocers in Berkeley opens Dec. 15.
- Natural Grocers is based in Lakewood.
- This Natural Grocers replaces Elitch Lanes.
The Natural Grocers at West 38th Avenue and Tennyson Street opens on Dec. 15.
The Natural Grocers at 3825 Tennyson St. is the 36th store in the chain.
Elitch Lanes called the site home for 63 years before Natural Grocers took over the site.
The new Natural Grocers will have about 15,000 square feet of space.
As with all new Natural Grocers, it will include a community room. Natural Grocers will host things such as nutritional conferences and cooking classes in the room, which seats 52.
When not in use, it can be rented for $25 per hour. It is available free to non-profits.
Jeremy Jones, spokesman for Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage Inc., said Tennyson Street and Berkeley are great fits for the Lakewood-based company.
“Berkeley is such a great up and coming community,” Jones said.
“There is so much happening on Tennyson Street that Natural Grocers will really fit into the community. We already have a great deal of interest from members of the community. I think there is a lot of excitement about us opening the Tennyson store.”
He said Natural Grocers has no problem opening minutes from a Sprouts Farmers Market minutes away at West 38th Avenue and Wolff Street in West Highland.
“No, not at all,” Jones said.
“I think there is quite a bit that distinguishes us from our competitors,” Jones said.
“Our stores only sell organic produce. We provide information and advice on natural nutritional health. Also, for a long time our stance has not been to sell anything with artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, and artificial preservatives.”
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 15 for the Tennyson Store.
Natural Grocers will distribute “mystery” gift cards to the first 60 customers in line.
Gift cards will be in the amount of $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100.
Customers won’t know the amount of their gift card until they check out
The store will also offer a tasting of healthy and delicious food from its Paleo Wraps class.
From 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., the Wild Canyon Band will perform.
The performance will be followed by a series of free, grand opening celebrations, including food tastings, cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes with nutrition experts.
Activities will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on these dates include:
- Saturday, Dec. 19: Gluten-Free Holiday.
